On this patriotic occasion of the 75th Independence Day of India, here’s an ode, a reminder, a ballad for this land which is so wonderful, the motherland of billions, the land of Saffron, White and Green.

India is
A long stretch of land
Land of the mountains,
Land of the desert,
Land of the beaches
Land of the farmers;
India is a long stretch of land,
Land that matters!
From scorching hot summers to
Shivering hands in winters,
A cup of freshly brewed tea or
A tall mug of coffee.
India is
An amalgam of thoughts, minds, souls and humans!
Tales of rich heritage and bound cultures
Untold mysteries of wise people and their histories,
A land of love and symbols of it,
A collaboration of loud sounds, colours and stories!
India is…
Everything man can see
And beyond.

Friends

Calm in the ocean
Breeze in the sky,
Beauty of nature
Friends who don't lie:
Freshness of flowers
Vastness of the night sky,
Honour and power
Come with friends, ask why!

Truth behind smiles:
Faith, love, hope, and likes -
Some live on, some don't;
Friends are mysterious
Angels who drop by!

Time gives us people
To fall back on, to talk,
To tear and to rely on.
Prowess of understanding
Being there and kindling kindness;
Friends are more than
Fun and happy faces.

Joy of laughter, tears of glee;
More than a lover,
Never less than family:
Friends - truth to which one agrees.
Say no more, glad for them,
For being there, walking beside,
Shoulder to shoulder:
Footprints meet,
Just how it's meant to be.

More than smiles
More than the travelled miles
Presence of mind
And shoulder to cry,
Friends are God-given
Blessing of a lifetime!

Dear Comrade

Together, we saw
The parting sun goes to bed,
Down on the bay.
The rain stops a while,
To come out the stars,
And sparkles on the sea.

Together, we saw
The kissing two skies,
When the sun comes up
Adding heavenly beauty,
To the blazing desert.

Together, we laughed a little harder,
Cried a little less,
But smiled a lot
Like a four-leaf clover.

Thee, the most valuable gift
The life ever offered me.
I loved to say,
The best days of life,
Was with you, my dear.

If I didn't have you,
What would my mourning childhood be?
My dreamy adolescents be?
My guileful teenage be?

You always scooped me up
When I was drowning,
In melancholy, in sadness.
Offered me thy shoulder,
To shed out my agonies.
You're not measured by time,
Computed by the size of the imprint
 Thy leaves in my heart.

When you're not around,
All the fun went away
Like lines of a fairy tale
Scripted only for us.

I know,
I am the imperfect,
I am the wrong,
I am the poorest,
Nobody except you befriended me.

Thy never gave advice,
Never been deceitful
Nothing toxic comes from thee
But are cared for and supported,
Quieter, but are listening,
Standing by my side.

Never lied to me with a compliment
Loved me as I am,
With all my fallibility.

Oh, friend
Catch me back,
Hold me in your heart,
Pick me up like,
Just spoke yesterday.

Thy live,
How long or how far far away,
For me,
Enough is thy memoirs.
Thank you, buddy,
For bringing that sun,
In the sky of friendship,
To shed light on my cloudy days,
As a ray of love and hope.

Attention

I like how my hair flows
Through the winds, over my brows.
I like how I smile and walk and talk
And kiss and sit and breathe.

I like me for what I am
But I don’t choose me more often.
Craving for something that am
Not able to put a finger on.

So here I am at twenty-five
Crying with the tap open
Knowing what I want and
Not choosing me one more time!

Attention is an obsession
Craving for more the more I get
Attention from you is all I long
Stay in my heart and never look back.

So when you don’t notice how my hair flows
I’d rather tie them up
And when you don’t see the little things
Little things inside me die.
Your attention that I see!
From what it was to what it is
From what I want to what I get.

Though I like me for what I am
I don’t choose me more often
For I crave your attention
And what a big loser I be often!

Come To Me

The calling of Superior Power

When things in your life appear hopeless, and difficult, when you feel you are going in the wrong direction and that this is not what you had planned for…summon a higher power and remind yourself that someone is always watching out for you.

When you find someone with a perfect life,
then come to me.

When you find someone with zero lies,
then come to me.

When you find someone with no worries,
then come to me.

When you find someone without any dreams,
then come to me.

When you find someone with no fears,
then come to me.

When you find that you have nobody to hear from,
then come to me.

When you find someone without any guilt,
then come to me.

When you find someone with a heartless soul,
then come to me.

When you find someone without any hope,
then come to me.

When you are unable to find yourself,
then come to me.

Me

I am my master,
I am my friend,
I am my teacher,
I am my strength!
I am whole and more,
And everything is fine;
I am daring and caring
And a special kind.

I allow no one to
Judge, disrespect and
Belittle: I am more than that.

I am my mentor,
I am my inspiration,
I am my truth, my
Purpose and path.

I am courteous,
I am grateful,
I am nature,
Vast, eternal and
Rooted upright.

I am brewing coffee,
Steaming hot tea,
A picturesque scene,
A lyrical gallery
Of poems and pictures,
All so wonderful;
It makes up the entirety
Of who I call Me!

Good, bad, wonderful,
I am everything I want to be;
I am everything I ought to be:
I am me.

Who Are You

A glimpse in the movie
Charmed me up
Grown-ups hugging parents,
Oh, lounging on their laps,
Kissing in the cheeks.
That's really wonderful,
That's truly cheerful.

Love that's baffled,
Hidden inside the heart,
That was my mother,
That had been my mother.

Oh, how could I ever remember
The hug of my mother,
Oh, should I ever hug her?
I couldn't remember ever.

She was always busy,
In the kitchen, courtyard,
Chasing the pet animals,
Running after the livestock.

Wheels on her legs,
A stick in her hand,
The days wouldn't end,
Without getting charged.

Sometimes, an epitome of the goddess Kaali
Occasionally the grumpy brat,
But all the time a purveyor of
Mouth watering delicacies.

A burning fire inside
She was always streaming
To cope with the tramp of life
Oh, at all times gushing.

Abruptly, the race stops
And she kept imploring,
To the passersby,
To the near and dear.

Who are you??
Oh tell me, dear,
Who're you??

The darkness overpass
Anamnesis into the eyes
She didn't see me
Not recognised me at the fore.

The canopy slowly replaced
The ceaseless broiling desert
Nagging fear creeped
Oh, a bundle of worries heaped
Now, the ego bawling,
To cuddle her, whimpering her.

Sitting behind the heavenly curtain
She kept on asking
Who're you???
I'm also incisive
To find an answer...

I Am Rare

I am rare,
I am unique.
I am tough,
I am hard to believe.

I am strong,
I am fragile.
I am filled,
I am thriving.

I am forced,
I am brave.

I am known,
I am strange.
I am near,
I am far.

I am the sun,
I am dark.
I am the flower;
I am the stone.

I am the queen;
I am the throne.
 Yes, I am the hope,
to fight all over again.
Naveeta wrote this poem with two goals in mind: one, to emphasise the strength of those who suffer from rare diseases such as haemophilia, Sickle Cell Disease, Muscular Dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis, and so on, and two, to demonstrate how unique they are despite having these conditions.
The second goal is to demonstrate women's strength, their will power and their grid.

Love Not Love No More

Everything was a lie!
All the promises,
Future dreams and the couple's goals:
Oh! The fake smiles and
Kisses were real!
Everything was a high,
All daydreaming and blushing…
Oh, the loud shouts and
The bruises were surreal!
Everything was not meant to be!
We imagined them to be.
What an irony!
Why was everything not fine?
As it ages, it gets better,
Is that just for the wines?
Not for romantic lines?
Is that only for drugs,
Not for genuine hugs?
What an irony!
Where has all the love gone?
Into the woods, the deep blue sea?
Where has all the wisdom gone?
Love not Love no more you see!
True love perhaps lost its way
Finding in this generation no interest!
What an irony!

A Warriors Heart

Scarred but not broken,
Shattered but not destroyed.
Quiet but not a victim,
Strong but not rude.
I am all things God
Made me be.
I am strong, beautiful
And more than enough:
I am powerful and
A warrior from within;
Married to the significance of nature,
Demeaned by mere men;
Not understood by many,
Loved by a few,
Hurt by a million small parts
Of instances, incidents, people
And expectations of this sheer heart!
Scarred but not broken,
Shattered but not destroyed.
