Education in Rural India has much to catch up on. Many new-age schools use Value Added Programs to help their students get a jump start on life skills that many rural school students either don’t get or cannot afford. Over the years, from my personal experience, I have seen many schools adapt their extracurricular activities to allow students to become ready for life after learning. Or to become prepared for their future. However, I have seen this as a gap for students from rural areas of our country. And it makes me wonder what it will take for a child learning in a remote Indian village to be given a chance to learn more than the set syllabi to get a competitive edge of not a chance over a city-educated learner.

The answer is simple, or if the point below is adapted, it will give our rural area learners a fighting chance.
Some tips for consideration:

1. Improve access to quality education

Ensure that all children, especially those in rural India, have quality education by providing adequate infrastructure and teachers in rural schools.

10 Ways To Encourage Kids To READ 

Getting a child excited to read can be easy if you make it fun. Start by incorporating reading into everyday activities. For example, when you’re out on a walk, point out things in the environment and talk about them. Ask your child questions about what they see and encourage them to look it up in a book later. Make trips to the library or bookstore a regular activity, and let your child explore different books and genres. Read to your child often and let them take turns reading back to you. Incorporate stories and characters into everyday life and make up your own stories with them. Finally, find books that your child is interested in. There are many books out there, from novels to comics and magazines, that can appeal to different tastes and interests. When a child finds a book they are interested in, they are more likely to be excited about reading it.

Growing up, my parents allowed my brother and me to have a giant suitcase full of books! Classics like Swiss Family Robinson, Treasure Island, Cinderella through to Marvel to DC. Big books, small books, thin books, fat books, A whole set of encyclopaedia’s. We had enough to keep two little boys engaged for hours. We were happy to get new, used, borrowed, gifted, and circulated books. Some of our readers had folktales, some had dinosaurs, some had animals, and others were comics. We would be buried in books for hours during summer and winter vacations. It was aside from other activities and our regular chores. Sometimes, we would bargain with mom and dad for time to read, wedged right between our evening playtime and dinner.

Unfortunately, with the advancement of technology, reading is becoming a fast-fading skill. Everyone wants to own a tablet or an e-reader. Only a few want to buy a newspaper or a physical copy of a book. At least, that’s my opinion. I sometimes think with time, books may become a thing of the past. I hope not, for the sake of those that want to create a magical escape into the world of world fantasy. 

Ten ways to get Kids to read & get them hooked

  1. Start Early:
    Begin reading to your child from a young age to instill a love for books and storytelling.

  2. Make it Fun:
    Choose books your child finds exciting and make reading fun, not a chore. Begin by reading to your children. Find books your children enjoy and take the time to read them daily.

10 Creative Ways To Make Time For Kids

Making time for your kids can be challenging, especially when you have a busy lifestyle. However, making time for your kids is essential, as it helps to create a strong bond and lasting relationship. One way to creatively make time for your kids is to set aside a specific amount of hours each week, such as two evenings or one evening and the weekend. During this time, you can do activities together, such as cooking, playing board games, going for a walk in the park, or playing catch. You can also use this time to discuss any issues or questions your kids might have. Additionally, you can make time for your kids by scheduling short outings or events, such as going to the movies, visiting the aquarium, or attending kids’ theatre performances. These activities together will help create meaningful memories for you and your kids.

1. Prioritize

Make sure your children are a priority and that you are making time for them. Never let them think, even for a moment, that they are second to your other commitments. 

2. Get organized

Make a list of all the tasks and chores you need to do and set priorities. Give your kids activities enough importance as the ones that are very important to you.

Cut out activities and tasks that are unnecessary or not helping you achieve your long-term goals. Carve out time for your little ones. And keep it cell-free, meaning it is solely their time and theirs only.

After a long day at the office and after the kids are done with school, you all wash up, join at the family table, hash out their homework, and then get some quality time with your family. Don't waste time on activities that don't bring joy or value to your life. For example, I can play chess, but I don’t fancy being a master at it. I would rather play cricket. Guess what? I intend to teach my nephews and nieces the game. Be it fishing, camping, barbecuing, or trekking, I will cheer them on as my brothers and sisters, who are great parents, give their kids great memories and ones they will treasure for eternity.

7. Don’t over-schedule

Make enough time to rest for yourself and your children. Over-Schedule is a killer. Killer of energy and fun. Do not commit to something if it clashes with your already planned goals. But, of course, emergencies do happen, and those are exceptions. Otherwise, try to maintain the schedule as much as possible. Consistency works well in building strong relationships in families amoung each other. 

8. Delegate tasks

Let others help with tasks that don't require your attention. 

9. Make time for yourself

Make sure you recharge and take care of yourself. Do what you have to do. Find, create and do everything you have planned for yourself. The day ahead will be easier to drive if your scheduled goals are accomplished.

When you are with your children, be present and engaged. Together is the key. However, together means one must be present and involved. For example, cook together, and also eat together, do chores together, exercise together, play and read together, do art and craft together, and study and do homework together. Being present is being there for the other person and doing something together. Kids love being included and involved. They love to be part of anything their parents are part of. So include them and cherish the times and moments together. They don't last forever.

As a parent, there should never be anything more important to you than your child or children. As we all know, children grow up loving their parents or wanting to be nothing like them. If they take the first point and we have yet to teach them that family is more important than work, friends, or other tasks. Then they will need to learn how to prioritize them. However, if we make the correct distinction as they grow up, let’s say you have done a mighty good deed! I have a few friends who live in other countries, or as we lovingly say, “abroad.” And they have adopted this principle with their kids. It is interesting to see how well their kids are doing in school and other areas of life. I believe this is directly because of the firm, reassuring and loving environment my friends have made for their kids.

Coping with Anger

ANGER IN PARENT

When parents are angry, it is crucial to understand the underlying cause. Parents may feel overwhelmed and lack the resources or support to manage their emotions. Showing empathy and understanding can help de-escalate the situation. It is also essential to give them space and time to cool off and return to the conversation in a calmer state. 

If the anger becomes too intense or threatening, it is vital to seek professional help.

If you suspect a child is out of control, the first step is to remain calm and provide a safe, secure environment for them to feel safe. Listening to the child and understanding what may be causing the anger is mandatory. If the child is feeling frustrated, talk to them calmly and in learning to help them identify and express their feelings. 
If the child is in danger of becoming violent, it is paramount to remove them from the situation and reach out to a mental health professional for further guidance.

Nurturing kids with nature is a great way to get them outdoors, help them learn about the environment, and become more connected with their surroundings. Gurukul and nature is a traditional form of education in India where the students live with their teacher and learn from him. It’s believed that being close to nature helps students learn better and appreciate the value of life. Nature provides a sense of peace and enhances concentration which in turn helps the students to focus better on their studies. Nature also helps to reduce stress, anxiety, and fatigue, which is essential for learning. Gurukul also teaches students values like love, respect, and compassion. 

In addition, the students learn to appreciate the beauty of nature and develop a sense of responsibility towards it. Nature also helps to teach the students a sense of gratitude towards their teachers and the environment. There are various ways to nurture kids with nature, such as going on nature walks, planting a garden, growing plants in containers, and visiting parks or other outdoor locations. Exploring nature can be educational, fun, and beneficial to kids’ physical and mental health. 1. Take them on outdoor adventures. Take them camping, hiking, or beachcombing. Explore a local park or nature preserve. Look for wildlife and collect leaves, rocks, and flowers. Involving them in a hands-on nature exploration allows kids to form a deeper bond and better understand nature. 

2. Plant a garden together. Plant flowers, vegetables, and herbs, and then watch them grow. This helps children become. Green thumbs. In today's world, with shrinking spaces and overbearing concrete jungles. A little green thumbing is a boon and not a challenging hobby. 

3. Go on a nature scavenger hunt. Look for bugs, leaves, rocks, and other items in your local environment. As shown in point one, this is an excellent hands-on experience. A good idea will be to make a scrapbook of sorts and help the children label and document what they collected. 

4. Take a nature walk. Teach your kids to observe and identify different plants and animals. This will give them a break from gadgets, redemption from idle sitting, exercise from walking, and a general love for the outdoors.

5. Have a picnic in the park. Enjoy a meal outdoors together and observe the wildlife. Again a great bonding exercise for the family.

Creativity in education uses innovative and imaginative approaches to learning, problem-solving, and teaching. It involves using creative processes, such as brainstorming, experimentation, collaboration, and critical thinking, to solve problems and create new ideas.

1. Use interactive activities in the lesson. Like us, kids these days get bored just as quickly as we did. It's a good idea to make classes as interactive as possible for two reasons. Better engagement is one. The second is brighter students. 
2. Add in the elements of art or music as part of the lesson. I learned this while watching my cousin, who happens to be a clinical music therapist. He works with specially-abled children but incorporating music and dance into his classes has positively impacted more than 75 specially-abled children! And trust me, it works with all learners. 
3. Use props or physical objects to illustrate concepts. This aspect helps to add to the learning experience. This is termed experiential learning. And is used in workshop sessions as well. 
4. Ask students to brainstorm solutions or ideas. Great tool or activity to get children on the teamwork and interdependence bandwagon. This also serves as a part of the problem-solving skills-building platform.
5. Have students explain concepts to each other. Also known as teaching to learn. The idea here is to share your learning of an image, which acts as a double learning opportunity. 
6. Allow students to take ownership of their learning. Increases their responsibility and accountability. In addition, it gives them a sense of achievement as they know exactly what their learning goals are. 
7. Make use of multimedia or digital tools in the lesson. Well, it is the 21st century. We have gone from writing in the mud to illustrating on a white screen. Using multimedia and digital tools helps build a deeper understanding of a subject in a learner's mind. It helps give clarity with visual and audio aid. 
8. Encourage students to ask questions and work in groups. Asking questions gives clarity. Working in groups, as mentioned earlier, helps with teamwork and interdependence. It also gives kids a chance to bond with others. 
9. Use literature or stories to help students understand concepts. This is an age-old concept and is an art form called storytelling. This was an effective way to transfer or hand down information for ages.
10. Try something new or different each day. Keep your audience or learners pleasantly surprised. Keen to experience a unique, fun, and exciting. 

These tips are just a few. But there are many ways to engage learners that surpass the list above. For example, a creative educator is an actual key to learners having an innovative education no matter what the subject to learn may be.
