Life Lessons Learned

As I step into my 30s, I have learned to recognize what is most essential in life. We constantly give advice to our peers, judge our neighbours, and believe we have it all figured out when in reality, the majority of us are running in hamster balls, not saying „goodnight “to our significant others, are upside down on our mortgages, and are simply going through the motions of daily life while putting on a front. As a millennial, I am offered advice, evaluated, and often mocked daily, but the one thing I cherish that many others lack is happiness. I have also learned the value of wearing comfortable shoes and having an extra hair tie. Still, most significantly, I know what makes me happy, a trait many seek.

1. Reconciliation and forgiveness are unrelated

Forgiveness is not about the other person but about letting yourself rid yourself and others of toxic anger, resentment, or destructive emotions. For instance, you can forgive someone who has wounded you, even if they do not apologize. It is not about them or the connection but about you and enabling yourself to have space for other great people and healthy sentiments in your life.

2. Seek direction from people you admire

If you’re anything like me, you’re probably tired of hearing „words of wisdom “from people you know. People like to feel important, so regardless of whether you ask for their opinion, they will give you their two cents on anything from relationships to real estate to finances. So, unless you admire that person, listen, nod, and smile before casting that advice over your shoulder and moving on. Instead, listen to the recommendation of individuals you respect and appreciate.

3. Spend quality time by yourself

You must constantly make time to be by yourself, recharge, laugh, and relax, regardless of whether you are a mom or grandma, a 40-hour-per-week worker!, or a CEO! So take a getaway, go for a run, call in sick, and, for at least one full day, just be YOU. You will love yourself more if you are rested, at ease, and upbeat. And the fun fact (your co-workers, spouses, family, employees, and friends will like you more ), do this only for yourself.

4. The only day that is ALL ABOUT YOU is your birthday (In my case)

Because it’s the one day a year when I get to make the decisions, celebrate and do whatever makes me happy. I never work on my birthday; instead, I take a vacation or spend the entire day doing everything I love with the people I care about.

5. Read

“The man who never reads lives only one. The reader lives a thousand lives before he dies.” George R. R. Martin, One of the best resources for your intellect is the library. A fantastic resource is Goodreads.

6. Spend some time outside

Nature can aid with depression and anxiety, according to studies. Mother Nature is highly therapeutic, whether hiking, camping, surfing, paddle boarding, jogging, or taking a stroll on the beach. Because it’s the common human dream, many individuals work hard to find love, settle down, and start a family. Nevertheless, many never find true happiness. Don’t follow what society tells you to do; follow your course.

7. Choose your fights

I’ll never know why people argue over politics or publish offensive things on social media. Decide what is worthwhile to fight for. I will not argue with my friends and family over small matters.

8. Words, once spoken, cannot be taken back

You can never take back anything you express. But, unfortunately, we’ve all had moments where we lost control and shouted regrettable things. Words can break people’s hearts, so use caution when speaking.

9. Embrace terrible days as they come, but know when to get help

There will be days when you don’t feel like getting out of bed when everything appears to be going wrong, and maybe even when you think your life is ending. Those times and days will pass, but if they don’t, ask for help, talk about your feelings, and never hide behind your mask because doing so will only worsen these times and days.

10. Clear out the clutter

We accumulate far too many unnecessary possessions. Go through your home, closet, and garage once a year, and donate whatever you haven’t worn or used in the last 12 months because you obviously don’t need it. I have a rule: I must donate an outfit or a pair of shoes from my closet for every new pair of shoes or clothing I purchase. I also make an effort to shop primarily at thrift shops.

11. Become more environmentally conscious

Even if you don’t compost your waste or drive an electric car, you may at least preserve the world by being aware of how much trash you make each week and finding ways to reduce it. Recycle, avoid buying disposable utensils and plates, pay attention to Amazon packaging, carpool, drink tap or filtered water from your faucet, and pick up garbage when you see it.

12. Strangers will become friends, and friends will become strangers

It’s okay if some of your friends and you become less close. Friendships require a lot of work, and if both parties are unwilling to put in the effort, the relationship may not be worthwhile in the long run. On the other hand, making new friends can happen at any age or level of coolness.

13. Discover a new hobby

I eventually started writing in 2020 after wanting to do so for a long time. I had no idea what content writing was all my life, and now I’m constantly asking people what niche they feel most at ease with. So take up a new hobby and make yourself more formative and resourceful.

14. To each their own conflict

You can never wholly understand someone else’s struggles. They could seem thriving, cheerful, and in good health on the surface, yet they might be going through some of the worst times of their lives. So, embrace, forgive, listen, and be kind to others.

Cheering Kids Of All Ages

Ever noticed how we bravo and cheer an infant, toddler, or a threenager? As parents, we can and should never stop being our children’s greatest cheerleaders. Why? It is how we build a secure and confident group of next-generation superstars. Trust me, when my folks cheered me on as a child, I felt like Ironman! There was nothing that would not surprise my dad. I learned to turn on a computer; my dad told his friends I was a genius! I worked in a hotel, and my mom told her friends I was a master chef!

Championing your children is one of the most meaningful things a parent can do. It can provide a boost of morale and self-esteem, as well as encourage a lifetime of learning and achievement.

When cheerleading your children, it is crucial to be optimistic and supportive. Create a surrounding of encouragement and provide emotional support. Never criticize or belittle your offspring. Instead, look for ways to acknowledge their successes and highlight their strengths. Praise their efforts and provide positive reinforcement.

It is also essential to set high expectations for your child. Please encourage them to strive for excellence in school and extracurricular activities. Allow them to explore their interests and passions and support their endeavours.

Allow your child to make mistakes. It helps them learn from their missteps and build resilience. Blunders and errors should be seen as opportunities for growth and learning.

In addition to providing emotional support, it is important to provide practical support. Help your child set realistic goals and provide an environment for success. Look for ways to reduce stress, such as providing additional help with schoolwork or other activities. Finally, be a role model. Children learn by example, so be sure to practice what you preach. Show your children how!

15 Ways To Encourage and Cheerlead Your Kid

1. Offer specific praise

Instead of saying, “Good job,” be clear about what your child did well. For example, “I like how you put so much effort into your homework today.”

2. Show interest in your child’s activities

Ask them about their interests and hobbies and show genuine interest in what they have to say. It will show them that you care about their interests and support their passions.

3. Give positive reinforcement and feedback

Please encourage your child when they struggle with something by offering positive feedback. For example, “I know this is hard, but I am so proud of you for trying your best.”

4. Celebrate successes

When your child accomplishes something, celebrate their success! It could be as simple as giving them a high-five or a hug. Celebrate their accomplishments – Take time to recognize and celebrate your child’s successes, no matter how small they may be.

5. Focus on effort, not just results

Encourage your child to focus on effort and progress rather than just the result. It will help them develop a growth mindset and learn to enjoy learning and growing.

6. Be a good listener

Listen to your child when they are talking to you and show them that you value their opinions and thoughts.

7. Provide opportunities for success

Create opportunities for your child to succeed and feel accomplished. For example, help them set achievable goals and encourage them to work towards them.

8. Encourage independence

Allow your child to make choices and decisions independently, which will help them develop their sense of autonomy and self-confidence.

9. Be a positive role model

Model positive behaviour for your child by demonstrating kindness, respect, and positivity towards yourself and others. Be a role model – Set a positive example and demonstrate how hard work pays off.

10. Love unconditionally

Show your child that you love them no matter what and that you are there to support them through their ups and downs. It will create a sense of safety and security for their emotional well-being.

11. Encourage them to set realistic goals

Set achievable goals and encourage them to work hard to reach them.

12. Support them through their mistakes

Mistakes are a part of learning, so encourage your child to learn from them and keep trying.

13. Show your confidence in them

Let them know you believe in their abilities and are proud of them.

14. Provide resources

Give them access to additional resources, such as tutoring and educational materials, to help them succeed.

15. Give them space

Allow them to make their own decisions and take on challenges that may feel intimidating.

Cheerleading children of all ages is essential as it is to breathing air! Cheerleading children of all ages is important because it encourages them to stay engaged and motivated. It helps to build their self-esteem, confidence, and resilience. Cheering them on gives them a chance to develop a positive outlook on life, to be proud of their accomplishments, and to believe in themselves. Furthermore, it can help them to establish healthy relationships with peers and adults.

Lastly, it can foster a sense of belonging and community, which is essential for children as they grow. Cheering on children can be a great way to motivate and support them. However, it is necessary to remember to do it the right way. Avoid putting pressure on the children, and instead, focus on praising their effort and encouraging them to keep trying. Use positive reinforcement to help them stay on track, and provide constructive feedback to help them improve. Be enthusiastic and supportive, and help create a positive and supportive atmosphere.

Pets Are Good For You And Your Family

The joy of having a pet cannot be fully described in words. It’s a feeling that must be experienced to be understood. Pets have an innate ability to provide comfort, companionship, and unconditional love to their owners. They can make us laugh, ease our stress, and give us purpose. Whether a loyal dog, a playful cat, a chirping bird, or a scaly reptile, pets bring unique happiness into our lives. They teach us responsibility, empathy, and patience. The bond between a pet and its owner is extraordinary, and it’s no wonder why pets are often considered part of the family. A furry buddy can also keep you company while you cope with stress or isolation.

10 Reasons why pets
Are Purrfect & Pawsitive

1. Owning a pet can lift your spirits

Having a pet can make you feel less stressed throughout the pandemic. Studies have shown that spending time with your pet can enhance your oxytocin levels, sometimes called the “love hormone.” It is the cause of your pet’s heightened attachment and sense of proximity. Also, it may lift your attitude in general.

2. Pets can also enhance your social life

When social distance rules are lifted, having a pet may also help you make new friends. Your pet may be the ideal conversation starter on your next Zoom call. Dogs are innately curious about everything around them, including people and other canines, and they can be the spark that starts social connections. If you have one, people may approach you to inquire about your dog. Yet, other animals, such as cats, can also broaden your social network. Studies show that compared to non-pet owners. Pet owners were more likely to get to know others in their community.

3. A pet can aid your search for love

Having one significantly improves your chances of finding true love. A poll found that 54% of pet owners reported their animals had aided them in striking up a conversation with a potential date. One in three respondents said they would want to meet someone with images of their pet in their online dating profile, and nearly two-thirds of people said they were likely to date someone who owned a pet.

4. A pet can increase your happiness and decrease your stress if you’re in a relationship

Research reported by Psychology shows that couples with a pet have lower blood pressure and are generally happier than their peers. Also, they communicate more with one another than couples without a PET!!!

5. You may relax with pets after a stressful day at work

You can find solace and relief in pets. Several studies have shown that touching an animal reduces anxiety after a stressful event. “The anxiety-reducing impact did not only apply to animal enthusiasts, but also to persons with various attitudes toward animals.”

6. Being around a pet significantly dog might increase your sense of security

Dog breeds such as German shepherds and Rottweilers are excellent deterrents against potential dangers from the outside world, which enables their owners to experience a greater sense of personal safety. In recent years, the popularity of Rottweilers has increased. One reason for this is because of „their loyalty, confidence, and protective instincts.

7. During chilly nights, you always have a companion

Some owners find comfort in curling up with their pets nearby, even though pets periodically disturb their sleep. You may experience tranquility as you sleep, thanks to them.

8. Even though they don’t have furs like cats or dogs, birds like parrots can be loyal friends for their entire lives

Birds are gregarious creatures who adore participating in games and putting on shows. On the other hand, parrots and other birds can pick up on and imitate human speech, something that other animals do not have. Birds also have life spans comparable to those of humans, with some parrots living to be over 100 years old. This ensures you will have a companion for the rest of your days.

9. Having a pet can aid in your child’s education

Keeping a pet when a child is young can help them develop higher levels of confidence and empathy and teach them how to be more responsible. Your child may feel more at ease practicing reading aloud in front of a pet rather than in front of another person because pets are naturally inclined to listen. Youngsters can begin to assist with caring for a family pet as early as they can feed, walk, and bathe the animal.

10. Pets can be a source of excellent creative inspiration

People are motivated by their pets in various ways. Albert Einstein frequently observed his cat Tiger’s movements to generate ideas for his theories. Florence Nightingale was initially inspired to join nursing by witnessing an injured puppy.

In a world that can often be stressful and uncertain, pets offer a sense of comfort and stability. They provide a daily routine, purpose, and source of unconditional love and affection. Pets can also improve physical and mental health, reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. In addition, they teach us life skills such as responsibility, patience, and empathy. Whether single, married, young, or old, having a pet can bring immeasurable joy and fulfillment into our lives. So, if you are considering adding a furry (or scaly!) friend to your family, know that you are making a decision that will undoubtedly enrich your life in countless ways.

To Feel Acknowledged

We are all, in some way or the other, at some point in time, attention seekers. I said it! We crave care, kindness, and empathy. Expression of love and affection benefits the receiver and us who show it. The desire to love and receive love is human. The more we lack it, the more psychologically affected, anxious, and blue we will feel.

According to studies, we must feel a sense of belonging, safety, and mattering to feel human and satisfied. We must also portray emotions of compassion and understanding towards other humans to decipher being alive and happy completely.

As social beings, humans have an inherent need to feel acknowledged and valued by others. Feeling acknowledged helps to boost self-esteem, enhance social connections, and create a sense of belonging. Acknowledgment can come in different forms, such as compliments, recognition, or validation of our efforts.

Acknowledgment can also have a significant impact on our mental and emotional well-being. For example, feeling ignored or dismissed can lead to inadequacy, low self-esteem, and depression. On the other hand, receiving acknowledgment can boost our confidence, improve our mood, and enhance our overall well-being.

Acknowledgment is also essential in fostering positive relationships. When people feel acknowledged, they are more likely to reciprocate positive behavior and build stronger connections. Acknowledgment can help create a positive feedback loop that reinforces good behavior and builds trust and respect.

Employers can also benefit from acknowledging their employees’ efforts. Acknowledgment in the workplace can boost employee morale, increase job satisfaction, and enhance productivity. Acknowledgment can also help to retain valuable employees and create a positive workplace culture.

Feeling acknowledged is a fundamental human need that significantly benefits our mental and emotional well-being, social connections, and workplace productivity. Acknowledgment can come in many forms, from a simple thank you to public recognition. By acknowledging others, we can create a positive and supportive environment that fosters growth and well-being.

Feeling significant and substantially mattering is the basic necessity for mental and physical well-being in life, and for all the right reasons, it is a community endeavour. In other words, we feel heard and loved because of others, and others think significant because of us. It is a give and takes in this world of different and varied emotions and feelings.

Wanting to feel loved is a nervous necessity for us – our brains and nervous system must be tuned and given attention to by others to assist in developing emotional self-regulation. We rely on others (our friends and family) for security, safety, and love to thrive and be emotionally stable.

Just like the strength of purpose is the driving force of human lives, we all thrive and survive on the basic need for feeling desired and accepted. To show the world that we live on love, compassion, and acceptance, we need to be more human and lessen the rates of crimes and dishonest human behaviours. Let us all be more mindful of ourselves, our desires, our basic needs, and others around us. Let us shine this world brighter with more empathy, more testimonials of affection, and honour lives with smiles and positive things. Let us make this world greener with warmth and compassion. Let us build awareness of the importance of being heard and understood.

In love With A Non-Conformist

I have been one of those people who always had a crush on non-conformists (err, and vice versa never happened!). Yeah, they are the ones who do not follow society’s rules and follow their heart. I admire people who choose their queues, routes, people, partners, careers, and life choices. Yes, this list is endless! These people stand out from the crowd in physical appearance and thinking. If you walk into a crowded party room, you can notice them instantly. They will also be the first to discuss with you and lead a date.

This is what your non-conformer date will be like

  • Loves to do crazy things impromptu and is spontaneous
  • Someone who has chosen an off-beat path – education/job/career
  • Taken a road that none have taken before to reach a destination
  • Has a quirky sense of humour
  • Whose idea of a date is a trek/hike/spending time in noble causes together/a road trip
  • Deals with conflicts and crises in a relaxed, unconventional style
  • Has a unique dressing style and stands out in a crowd – loud and outrageous to subtle outrageous too
  • Who rebels openly
  • Flexible and open-minded to unpredicted situations
  • Unplanned yet logical
  • Honest to the core
  • Unafraid to be their raw, genuine selves
  • Loves new creations

So, if your answer is “yes” to all of these or even most of them, you are romantically attracted to non-conformists – those not following conventions and rules of society and are one yourself too. They love being themselves without feeling the need to justify or explain themselves. You may be one, too, just like I have been. But unfortunately, most of society still doesn’t accept non-conformists.

A non-conformist is “a person who does not conform to prevailing ideas or practices in their behaviour or views.” For example, recent studies and research have found that people prefer “bad boys or girls” to be sexy and attractive, making them prospective dates and partners. So that is the label for a non-conventional person who does what they feel is right.

So how do you identify a non-conformist? Sometimes it is by their appearance, clothes, attitude, gait, behaviour, friends, hobbies, and the career they choose.

A disclaimer here: Following are general traits of non-conformists. They aren’t written in stone. Some of them are the traits I have observed (gender no bar, sex no bar). You may or may not relate to these.

Clothes
This may change from individual to individual. Mostly, you may find them pairing unique combinations of clothes. In short, they have their individuality and the style of dressing, their way of paring

Hobbies
Most love travelling, meeting new people, photography, writing, art, craft, etc. They are also mood-based in pursuing their hobbies. They love multitasking a lot.

Attitude
They cannot stand silent witnesses to any injustice happening around them and will raise their voices verbally or silently. For instance, vocal on public platforms or and social media, they don’t shy away from being honest. They are also highly confident about themselves. Attitude speaks louder than words.

Motivational
They love pushing people to do better and make intelligent choices (read: different or unconventional). They are great public speakers as well. They also only linger a little bit on failures. Instead, they keep trying to improve each time to reach their goal. They have a clear blueprint of how they want to be without following the bandwagon or getting influenced by peers/family/society.

Work/Profession
Entrepreneurs, photographers, social workers, artists – fine arts and visual arts, and writers are the most common fields they choose. However, there can be others as well.

Activists/Change-makers
They will take the lead to start a new revolution or bring changes to the existing systems around them.

I say, “to each their own and their choices,” always follow your heart and be a non-conformist! Signing off with this beautiful quote “be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t.” A non-conformist once is one forever!

Fading Friendships

Friendship…Is it too early to bring it up, as we are still celebrating Valentine’s Day? 14 February observes not just romantic relationships; there is room for friendship to be honoured. I am sure all of you have best friend/s or a close-knit gang you look up to – a band that does all the crazy things with you!

Friendship comes in all flavours – tangy, savoury, sweet, and bittersweet (read: fighting and teasing). Among friends, we have childhood friends, college friends, work associates, bosses, and some whom you casually meet and strike conversations with at parties – you can call them friends of friends. I am sure all of you have friends forever. But what about those who have left you (read: ghosted), moved to another continent/country, or fought with them? Some may have been your childhood pals, and now they seem so distant. You get to know updates about their life (read: milestones) on social media now. As disheartening as it can be, it is real too. Feelings may not fade off in friendships entirely, but they won’t have the same flavour as they did when you started the friendship.

Friends are humans who leave footprints and marks in your life as they come. They may be forever, but not many of your friends are meant to be forever. You may part ways with them because of differences in opinions, thoughts, or even distances. Growing apart has been more of late because of physical and emotional spaces. Some even say the friends you begin your early life with may not be the ones in your closest circle as you near the end of your life. But, of course, some lucky few end up with childhood friends in their old age.

Physical distances may be because you or your friends may relocate abroad for higher studies or even settle down. More than that, emotional distance enters the relationship once you or your friend(s) move to another city/country. You or your friend may have found a new circle of friends in the new location. Phone calls or text messages may become fewer. Bonds may weaken over some time but not fade away completely. Either way, all relationships undergo the test of time, and they decide whether they will be a part of your circle even 20 years later.

10 Reasons Why
Friendships lose colour and flavour

We often talk about deep, long-lasting friendships akin to the deep reds in nature. But have any of you experienced the feeling of losing friends? The friends whom you believed are the FOREVER type. The ones you thought will be your 2 AM friends.

1. Changing physical locations

Most of us move schools, cities, and even countries as children or adults. We end up losing contact numbers of friends during the transition process. Most friendships die a slow death during this time. Our then besties will become a distant past.

2. Different priorities, life choices

Very often, we make various life choices, and priorities begin to take shape over time. As a result, we may no longer match with our buddies and their interests. Routes change, and we stop being friends too.

3.“Lack of time” or change in lifestyles

In the rat race, we often stop calling friends because of deadlines, work stress and pressures, family, traveling, and even an imbalanced routine. In addition, our priorities have changed over the years, making us hesitant to pick up the phone to call our friends.

4. Misunderstandings or conflicts

We do not nod a Yes to every statement our friends make. Unfortunately, there are times when a No is taken in the wrong way. We may form strong ideologies that do not match each other and end up in conflicts and misunderstandings. This may lead to not talking to each other for months and even years.

5. Toxic bonds deflect friends

Toxicity enters friendships just like romantic relationships. A friend might keep pulling down your self-esteem when you are at your lowest levels. They may poke at your confidence instead of supporting you. Some may be constantly unhappy with your success and happiness and mock you always. That is the time you choose to walk away from that friend. Unfortunately, it may be your closest pal or best childhood friend.

6. Betrayals

Your best friend or friend circle may have given away your secrets and humiliated you. This can be hurtful, and you choose to distance yourself from your friends as you trusted them with your deepest feelings and secrets.

7. One-sided friendships

Over some time, all friendships go through this stage. When you continue being the giver and your friend or friends take advantage of you by not reciprocating, it can hit you hard. Also, friendships die when you see they aren’t respecting you for what you are doing for them and aren’t doing the same for you.

8.No common interests

When you and your friends have nothing in common to share or talk about, you end up searching for like-minded friends elsewhere. So you aren’t exactly breaking ties with your friends, but you become emotionally distant.

9. You cannot be YOU

Each time you share something with your friend and they trivialize your emotions, calling it a bluff can leave you hurting. If there are constant idea clashes, you end up restricting yourself in front of your friend, making the bond artificial or fake.

10. Endless Silence

It is common for friends to go into a shell after a big fight or argument. The silence can be for a few days, but when the silence is a longer one, friendships can be affected. Lack of communication can lead to fading friendships.

Losing friends is unfortunate, but as they say, some people are meant to come into your life when you need them, or they need you the most and leave when they have to. The reasons for leaving may vary, but you still have those beautiful memories to cherish when you were with them. So, love those times! I won’t say: “Move on” because it isn’t easy to give up on friends who were with you when you needed them the most, but I do wish them well, and maybe, you might meet them years later with a bright smile and reminisce those extraordinary times again over a drink or cuppa tea/coffee.

Soon I Will Be Sixty Years Old

Life is too short to live mediocrely. Life is too short to miss out on things I want to do. Life is too short not to make it fancy! Life is too short not to take that vacation! Life is too short not to try that bodycon dress I have always wanted to flaunt! Life is too short not to make memories. Life is too short not to experiment. Life is too short not to fail. Life is too short not to make an effort. Life is too short not to give it a chance. Life is too short to hold grudges. Life is too short to harbor hatred. Life is too short not to smile. Life is too short not to take that risk. Life is too short not to live it.

I have already come to an age where I want to return to being five – unfortunately, I cannot. Soon I will be sixty years old – smiling at my partner (maybe just me smiling at my reflection in the mirror), remembering all the good times and bad, waiting for the little things to unfold. Life is a beautiful journey – it is best if I travel it happily, making memories and going with the flow. Life is too short not to paint it vibrant – it is rather foolish not to make it wholesome. Life is too short to miss those opportunities and take a stand.

Life is too short to break those promises I made to me. Life was too fast for me to realize later that the best thing I could do was to wholly accept who I am and be the best version of me. Life is the best teacher – what I have learned from my personal experiences, none could have taught me otherwise.

Soon I will be sixty, with wrinkles forming on my skin and memories fresh yet flashy – a surreal smile and a heart that races back to the 90s when I was a kid. Rooted thoughts and long-lost love for the little things in life, age is not just a number. It opens windows of wisdom, power, fears, and scars. Soon I’ll be sixty years old… I might as well use each day to the best, to be the best!

Hello Besties, how are you doing? Oh wait… Why am I calling everyone my besties? Because… it’s the trend! Yes, you heard that right.

Growing up and in school, I had to determine much about whom to call my bestie. Whether they consider me their best friend too? That was a pre-requisite. Cut to 2023, when social media has become everyone’s alternate best friend and every stranger on here is now their bestie. My concern is how we dilute the essence of something by overusing and turning it into slang.

To give a little context, using bestie as a greeting started on Tik Tok, a social media platform where the sound ‘Bestie Vibes Only’ got more than 80,000 videos. It barely takes a moment to change the medium from TikTok to Instagram. First, users started commenting, referring to strangers as besties, and then the rest followed. So now we have creators calling their followers besties and influencing others to do the same. At some point, ‘bestie’ even became a signal of friend-zoning. On the internet, we are all each other’s besties? Off the internet, we think, ‘can I cry in front of my ‘real’ best friend?’

Bestie is, after all, just a shortened form of a best friend. But why does it irk me so much? Because as you go and grow through life, you start understanding who your true friends are. Someone whom you chose in school to distribute chocolates with on your birthday is probably not even in touch with you. Today, can we even give one or more than one person the superlative of being the best when it comes to friendship? Few are lucky to have a different set of best friends, while others rely on their 150-7000 followers as besties. It is just a form of affection; what’s the harm?

Do You Have a Bestie?

In today’s age, we are consciously aware of red flags, lousy behaviour, problematic thinking, generational trauma, and objectifying mentality in a person. How many of you know a friend with at least one of these aspects? How are we then deciding on our best friends? Are we improving them, or are we trying to bring in a change among ourselves?

The internet will give you a set definition of a best friend, but as you experience situations, the implicated meaning will keep changing.

For example, do you have five best friends you can tell everything about or just two who know what you are going through? Why do you choose the two to share and make sense of or mean something to you and then share tidbits with the others? Why?

Do you have someone you can call in the middle of the night, through every breakthrough and breakdown, and share minor things without hesitation? Someone who can unfold the layers of your thoughts and place them in front of you to pick and choose the good ones and eliminate the negative ones. As we get older, we get entangled in our responsibilities, and the frequency of calls/messages with our best friends reduces. As a result, we genuinely forget to share some things and brush away others for good.

As of today, with all you have been through, do you have a bestie? Someone who has seen you drunk, probably half-naked, embarrassing yourself, falling for the wrong person, giving you a piece of mind over and over again… Someone who stood by when you lost your pet or cheered when you cleared the exams to go abroad and chase your dreams? There can be a broader spectrum of all these emotions, but to have one person through it all is a blessing of a bestie!

Now the question is, have you been someone’s best friend too? Friendship is, of course, a two-way street. Have you stood like a rock alongside someone through their growth and downfalls? In friendship, this also has to be done without expectations.

The internet will forget about besties when there is a new word around the corner. The 700 followers on your profile are only doing it for engagement. Remember how everyone went LOL and now it simply means nothing at all without even a hint of laughter. Language is always at the behest of slang. We are soon going to do that to besties. No biggie, as long as we remember who our absolute besties are.

1. Determine Your Weight Gain or Loss Goals

It would help if you detailed all the reasons you wish to get fit. For example, is it weight loss or gain motivation? It will support your determination and motivation to stick with your fitness program.

When you are tempted to veer from your plans, try to read them out to yourself each day and use them as a reminder. Fitness for each person is different. You might do it to avoid getting diabetes, to boost your confidence, or to fit into a particular pair of pants. It varies from person to person. Whatever the reason, fitness is to keep you healthy, active, and unique. Please do it for yourself. Many people start getting fit at their doctor’s advice, yet research demonstrates the internal drive from within is more effective. Losing weight requires consuming fewer calories, while gaining weight, you consume more calories than you burn. Increase your daily caloric intake by consuming nutrient-dense foods high in healthy fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. Focus on eating whole foods like lean meats, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats.

2. Possess reasonable expectations

Numerous diets and diet supplements promise quick and simple weight loss and gain. However, most experts advise dropping just 1-2 pounds (0.5-1 kg) per week. In addition, setting impossible goals may make you feel frustrated and facilitate you to give up. Instead, establishing and achieving realistic goals makes you feel accomplished. Additionally, those who succeed in their self-set weight loss/gain objectives are more likely to keep the weight off and steady in the long run. The good news is that even a slight loss of weight—5–10% of your body weight—can significantly improve your health. Losing 5–10% of your body weight can actually

  • Enhanced blood sugar regulation
  • Decrease heart disease risk
  • Lower levels of cholesterol
  • Reduce the risk of certain malignancies and joint discomfort

Combining strength training exercises into your exercise can help you gain muscle mass and increase your overall fitness level. Focus on activities that target all the major muscle groups, such as squats, deadlifts, bench press, rows, and overhead presses. Aim for 3-4 sessions per week, with each session including a variety of exercises.

3. Concentrate on Process Goals

Regarding weight loss, many people trying to lose weight only set outcome objectives—those they want to achieve in the end—in their goals. A typical result objective is to reach your final target weight. However, concentrating on just one result objective may cause you to lose motivation. They can frequently seem too far away, leaving you feeling overburdened—set process goals instead, which are the steps you’ll take to get your intended result. Exercise four times per week, is an illustration of a process goal.

To establish powerful goals, think about using SMART goals.

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Achievable
  • Realistic /Time-based

Integrating cardiovascular exercise into your routine can help you improve your endurance and overall fitness level. Engage in activities like running, cycling, swimming, or any other form of cardio that you enjoy. Aspire for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity cardio 3-4 times per week.

4. Maintain a Log of Your Fitness Efforts

The ability to motivate oneself and keep track of one’s progress while dieting is essential.
According to the findings of specific studies, people who keep a record of the food they eat are more likely to reduce the amount of weight they carry and to keep it off.
On the other hand, to keep a food journal properly, you need to write down everything you consume. It includes whole meals, snacks, and even the candy bar you grabbed from a coworker’s desk and devoured.
In your food journal, you can also write your feelings and reactions. This can help you discover particular triggers that cause you to overeat and assist you in finding healthier methods to deal with the stress in your life.
You can keep food journals using pen and paper, a website, or an app on your mobile device. They have all been demonstrated to be successful.

5. Appreciate Your Successes

It might be challenging to lose weight, so it’s essential to recognize and appreciate each victory along the way.
When you accomplish a goal, make sure to give yourself some credit. Your level of motivation will grow when you have a healthy sense of pride in who you are.
In addition, make sure you remember to celebrate the changes in your behaviour and not just the fact that you reached a certain number on the scale.
Rewarding oneself is another way to boost your motivation further, which can be done in this way.
Nevertheless, it is essential to select suitable rewards. For example, avoid gratifying yourself with food as much as possible. A good rule of thumb is to steer clear of incentives that are either so costly that you would never consider purchasing them or so meager that you would still give in to the temptation to acquire them.

6. Find Social Support

To stay motivated, people require constant encouragement and positive support. For them to assist you on your path, let your close relatives and friends know about your weight loss objectives.

Finding a weight loss companion is something that many people also find beneficial. You can exercise, hold each other responsible, and support one another throughout the process. Involving your partner can also be helpful, but be sure to enlist the aid of other individuals, such as your friends.

Additionally, think about joining a support group. Support groups, both offline and online, are helpful.

7. Make a Promise

According to research, those who publicly commit to their goals are more likely to see them through.
You’ll be more likely to stick with your plans if you let others know about them. Inform your close relatives and friends, and you might even think about posting them on social media. Accountability increases as you share your goals with more people.
Additionally, think about purchasing a gym membership or a series of workout courses or registering in advance for a 5K. You are more inclined to follow through if you have already invested anything.
Allow your body to rest and recover between workouts. Getting enough sleep and rest days can help prevent injury and allow your muscles to repair and grow.

8. Obtain Expert Assistance When Required

When required, don’t hesitate to ask for professional advice to further your weight loss objectives. Those who are more confident in their knowledge and abilities lose more weight.
You should find a qualified dietitian who can teach you about specific foods or an exercise physiologist who can demonstrate how to exercise appropriately.
Many people appreciate the accountability that consulting a professional provides.
If you are still having difficulties keeping motivated, finding a psychologist or nutritionist who has received training in motivational interviewing may be beneficial. It has been demonstrated that using this strategy can assist people in achieving their objectives.
A registered dietitian can help you create a meal plan that supports your weight gain and fitness goals. They can also guide appropriate macronutrient ratios, portion sizes, and overall calorie intake.

Physical fitness is essential for maintaining good health. Regular exercise can help strengthen your muscles, bones, and cardiovascular system, leading to better overall health. It can also help reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. Exercise helps boost energy levels by increasing blood flow and oxygen supply to the body, leading to improved endurance and stamina. Exercise has been shown to positively impact mental health, reducing the risk of depression, anxiety, and stress. Regular exercise can elevate mood, improve sleep quality, and increase self-confidence. When you’re fit, you have more energy and stamina to complete daily tasks and enjoy recreational activities.

Fall-In-Love With Self

THIS VALENTINE’S DAY, LOVE YOURSELF!!!  I said it and you heard me right. Every year, this day, there is tremendous pressure to go out on a date or do something romantic for your significant other. However, if you are not currently involved in a long-term romantic partnership, it might be challenging to derive any significance from a day centered on love. I say…why not some kindness and compassion to self! Put yourself first.

Instead of worrying about whether or not someone loves you on Valentine’s Day, work on loving yourself rather than focusing your energy on whether or not another person loves you. There are ways to love yourself that you can use well beyond February, even though it is much simpler to say than it is to put into practice. First, however, there are tactics that you can use.

To begin, you ought to engage in an activity you enjoy that does not require you to wait on anybody else. Ignoring other people’s viewpoints and concentrating your efforts instead on accomplishing the objectives you have established for yourself will allow you to focus on the activity you enjoy doing in your spare time. On the road to learning to love oneself, the first and most crucial step is to get over the habit of being preoccupied with what other people think. Because you are the only person in your life who will ever receive your undivided attention, you need to ensure that you make the most of your time by participating in pursuits that bring you happiness.

“One of the first steps toward self-love is letting go of other people’s opinions.” at the end of the day, you will only be with yourself for the entire time, so why not spend that time engaging in activities you enjoy?

Forgiving yourself for the errors you’ve committed in the past is another essential component of practicing self-love and respect. It’s easy to be hard on ourselves for things we’ve done in the past, but if we want to love ourselves, we must learn to forgive ourselves for what we’ve done. Doing this will teach us to be more receptive to new chances for personal development. For example, let’s assume you have a crush on someone and ask them out on a date, but they decline your invitation; that’s perfectly acceptable. You can now seize this opportunity to date yourself or some of your pals.

Toxic behaviours must be avoided as part of loving oneself, as this is an essential component of self-love. It is tempting to indulge excessively to fill the emptiness left by the absence of a Valentine, but doing so will only damage you in the long run. If you enjoy walking, take a long stroll to your favourite location and listen to some of your favourite music or a podcast. Not only will this keep you physically busy, but it also has the potential to release you from any negative ideas preventing you from fully appreciating the present.

To return to the topic at hand, you should do your best to focus on the present moment. I am aware that it is not as simple as it may sound, particularly if you suffer from depression or anxiety, but if we want to make the most of our lives, we have no choice but to focus on the here and now. It is pointless to worry about the past since nothing has changed, and it is counterproductive to worry about the future because it prevents you from appreciating the present moment.

“Worrying about the past won’t change anything, and worrying about the future will only prevent you from appreciating the present,” the saying goes.

Being single on Valentine’s Day is not the most convenient holiday situation. But on the other hand, this presents us with an opportunity for introspection and a fresh look at ourselves. It is easier to love other people by first having a healthy relationship with oneself.

Practice self-love on Valentine’s Day

  1. Treat yourself with kindness and compassion. Speak to yourself as you would to a friend.
  2. Practice self-care by doing things that make you feel good, such as exercising, reading a book, or taking a relaxing bath.
  3. Note down things you like about yourself, your achievements, and something you are proud of.
  4. Surround yourself with optimistic people who support and encourage you.
  5. Avoid damaging self-talk and instead focus on positive affirmations.
  6. Take time to meditate on your needs and wants and make a conscious effort to prioritize them.
  7. Allow yourself to say “no” to things that don’t serve or make you happy.
  8. Engage in movements that bring you joy and fulfill your passions.
  9. Remember to forgive yourself for mistakes and embrace your imperfections as part of what makes you distinctive.
  10. Celebrate your own love story, and respect the person you are becoming.

Taking care of oneself should always come first, even in a committed relationship. If appealing to your partner’s wants or desires makes you uncomfortable, resist the urge. This will only cause a decrease in the amount of love you have for yourself, and it may eventually result in a one-sided relationship. On Valentine’s Day, remember to be kind to yourself. Sometimes it won’t be easy, but loving yourself is the most crucial reward at the end of the day. There will be times when it will be difficult.
